FAQ

Have a question about orthotics? See our list of frequently asked questions below.

What is a custom orthotic?

Unlike over-the-counter insoles, custom orthotics are expertly-crafted inserts that are individually designed to support and comfort the foot. By correcting any abnormal movements of the foot, custom orthotics can restore proper gait, and reduce pressure points.

Why are custom orthotics prescribed?

Custom orthotics are prescribed as an effective treatment for many medical conditions, including:

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Metatarsalgia
  • Bunions
  • Feet or leg deformities
  • Overuse syndromes
  • Shin splints
  • Knee pain
  • Hip pain
  • Low Back pain
  • Complications caused by Diabetes or other diseases

What is the process involved in getting custom orthotics made?

The first step in the process of making your custom orthotics involves a complete assessment of your medical history, biomechanics, and gait. Once certified health provider identifies your need for custom orthotics, he or she will either create a 3-D cast of your foot or perform a computerized gait analysis to make a template.

It usually takes seven to ten days to manufacture your orthotics. When they are ready, your healthcare provider will invite you back to ensure a proper fit and discuss proper use and care for your new orthotics.
